Study the Causes Affecting Absenteeism of Students at Lower Secondary School in Pakse Distict Champassack Province

This research study aims to study the causes that affect the absence of students at the primary secondary school that depends on the Department of Education and Sports, Pakse City, Champasak Province.

Abstract

This research study aims to study the causes that affect the absence of students at the primary secondary school that depends on the Department of Education and Sports, Pakse City, Champasak Province. The population group in the study are students, teachers and principals in 10 junior high schools that depend on the Department of Education and Sports in Pakse and the sample group is 332 students, 120 teachers and 10 principals. which was selected from each school to represent in this study. By distinguishing by gender, age, education, work experience and job title. The tools used in this study are questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires contain 8 questions that are a problem in students' absenteeism, such as family, students, educational institutions, curriculum and teaching, educational institutions, teachers, friends, environment and society. In addition, there were interviews with 10 principals who are representatives from each selected school and were interviewed for their opinions on problems and solutions in each aspect that is a problem for students' absenteeism. Analyze data by finding frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation values.

The results of the research are known about the causes that affect the absence of students in each of the areas defined in the objectives. Overall, it is at a very high level with (X ̅=2.15). But when considering the order of each aspect, it is found that the aspect with the most causes is the educational facility with (X  ̅=1.92), followed by the environment and society with (X  ̅=1.94), followed by the student aspect with (X  ̅=1.96), then the curriculum aspect with (X  ̅ =1.98), teachers with (X  ̅=1.99) and discipline of the educational institution with     (X  ̅=2.06). Factors with medium level of causes are family factors with (X  ̅=2.64) and family factors with (X  ̅= 2.72).

The way to solve this cause, especially in terms of educational facilities and environment and society. The research results are the main causes that affect the absence of students at many levels. The results of this research study are useful for education administrators to take as a way to improve and develop educational institutions, specifically, as well as the development of human resources in their own institutions to develop gradually.
