The Barriers Hindering the Quality of General Education Development in Champasack Province Academic Year 2019-2020

This study was a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods by conducting research in 9 districts, 1 city in the Champasack province in academic year 2019-2020, which identified the objectives of the study into two areas: (1) to investigate the situations of problems that hinders the quality of general education in the province. (2) To consider the recommendations as guidelines for improving the quality of general education. The research instruments in this study were questionnaires for both the teachers and students, and an interview form for administrators. The quality of the instrument was tested for finding Cronbach Alpha, and the instrument was found in .75. of expectable levels. The sample size in this research was 1,240 people from these sections which included 9 heads of District Education and Sports Offices, a head of Capital city, the 30 principals, the 300 the teachers and 900 students from the 30 secondary schools in Champasack province. The research samples were carried out by using mixed sampling techniques in order to select the samples appropriately and technically. The statistics in the data analysis were to find the percentage and the average value. The study took for the whole time period of one year. From the results of the study, the situations of problems have affected to the development of general education in the 4 areas which were identified in this study in particularly; the problems of curriculum implementation, the problems of the teachers (academic, family, socio-economic), the problems of students (family, economics-social). And the teaching-learning facilities of the schools. The results of this study were based on the set assumptions of the 4 indicators regarding to the findings of the average values within the higher to the highest levels of consensus. Therefore, regarding to the study results of the 4 indicators were negative impacts on the quality of general education development in Champassak province. As well as the results of the interviews from the heads of the district education and sports offices and the principals of the 30 secondary schools were found as the appropriated opinions towards the related barriers and recommendation consensually.
