Abstract

Assessment of Knowledge and Behaviors of Farmers in the use of Pesticide in Commercial crops in Pak xong District area is intended to: 1) the farmers’ knowledge and pesticide using behaviors in Pak xong District; 2) identify the types of pesticides using farmers in Pak xong District, and 3) the gender roles for pesticides using at the household level. This study is based on the farmers' knowledge and pesticide using behaviours in Huay xet village, Kong toon village, Katuad village, Li tueung village and Nong xung village of 245 families (Statistical Analysis is the Yamane, 1976 reliability.

The result of study that overall farmers in Huay xet village, Kong toon village, Katuad village, Li tueung village and Nong xung village, Pak xong District. The farmers’ have the knowledge about pesticide use and a good self-efficacy in spraying pesticides. There is a very good level of knowledge in pesticides use accounting for 71.0 percent, a good level of knowledge about pesticide use is thought to be 29.0 percent. There is an average and standard behavioral value in the use of pesticides, i.e. (  = 3.55, SD = 0.68) for the first time. The second down is the behavior between pesticides spraying at a very good level (   = 3.57, SD = 0.80) and post-pesticides behavior at a very good level (  = 3.22, SD = 0.91) as the last.  Most academic levels have been used by farmers who graduate from high school have more use of pesticides compared to farmers with asian or undergraduate degrees, i.e. the use of pesticides is thought to be 18.4 percent. It will be used significantly during the use of pesticides, accounting for 17.6 percent, and the post-use period of pesticides is thought to be 18.0 percent.

The use of pesticides used by farmers to prevent and eliminate pests will be seen, mainly by farmers, using them to prevent and eliminate insects, accounting for 81.3 percent for the first. Down to the use of drugs to prevent and eradicate diseases, 12.5 percent, and the herbicides, accounting for 6.2 percent, the last.

The role of women and men in the use of pesticides at the family level in five villages in the city of Bangkok found that overall, men played more roles than mothers, thought to be 90.0 percent more than their mothers, and women were only 10.0 percent of their own, especially before the use of pesticides (the period before pesticides) were mainly 89.6 percent self-made men, and women were self-made, accounting for 10.4 percent. During the use of pesticides (the duration of pesticides) most lyrics, men are self-made, accounting for 98.7 percent, and women are self-made, 10.3 percent. Finally, after the use of pesticides (the period of storage, storing and cleaning the body), the majority of the men were self-made, accounting for 81.3 percent, and women were self-made, accounting for 18.7 percent.

 When there are consider the farmers in the 5 villages of Pak xong District were given information and received specific training. The farmer using the types of pesticides to prevent as most of the pesticides are insecticide in the first level, followed by the fungicide and the herbicides is last level. And addition, it is also apparent that the role of gender pesticide using at the household level in the 5 villages of Pak xong district is more likely that men play a more significant than women especially the role of men have a lot for pesticides use and the participation of training activities more than women. For the result of correlation analysis between age, education level and the experient of vegetable growing to the pesticide using behavior of farmer show that there’s correlation.
