COMPARATIVE OF MATHEMATICS ABILITY FOR SUBJECTIVE TEST AND OBJECTIVE TEST IN GRADE TWELVE AT CHAMPASAK PROVINCE

The purpose of this research was to compare students’ mathematics ability for subjective test and subjective test at grade 12 in Champasak Province. The sample group consisted of 360 students (male: 163, female: 197) who were selected based on Krejcie & Morgan table and random sample by multistage random sampling. The research instruments applied to collect data were subjective test, consisting of 20 Items and lasting for 90 minutes to solve Mathematics problems by Rubric score 0 to 4 criteria with IOC = 0.67 - 1.00, p = 0.31 - 0.54, r = 0.22 - 0.55, Cronbach’s - α = 0.873; and objective test (4 choices), comprising 20 Items and lasting for 60 minutes to answer with IOC = 0.67 - 1.00, p = 0.27 - 0.70, r = 0.21 - 0.86, KR-20 = 0.825. Scores of the subjective test and the objective test were analyzed by using dependent sample t-test

Comparative mathematics ability for subjective test and objective test at grade 12 in Champasak Province was significant at 0.001 level, and . It showed that the score of objective test was higher than that of subjective test in every item. The Mean score of objective test was and the Standard Deviation was . The Mean score of subjective test was and the Standard Deviation was . Although the score of objective test was higher than that of the subjective test, the items of each test were similar. Thus, it could be concluded that the subjective test method better measure knowledge of grade 12 students than objective test one.
