Abstract

From the results of experimental research on the use of synthetic seawater formula for the nursery of Giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii, De Man 1879) which was divided into tree treatments: T1 was seawater, T2 was artificial seawater formula 1 (Gardiner, 1972) and T3 was artificial seawater formula 2 (Institute of Marine and Coastal Science, 2007)  The average number of shrimps entering nursery was between 3,285.56 and 3,423.67 shrimp/basin. The collection of data on the number of shrimps that can be hatched as well as the number of shrimps hatched in the treatment of T3 has a significantly higher survival rate than the shrimps in other treatments (p<0.05). The survival rate values of each treatment were T1 (24.85 %), T2 (18,48 %), and T3 (38,38 %) (p<0.05).

After shrimps were completely hatched in each treatment, the data of weight and length were collected. It can be seen that the slow-hatching shrimp had higher weight and length (experiment 2) which the values were average weight T1 = 1.10 g/shrimp, T2 = 1.55 g/shrimp and T3 = 1.02 g/shrimp (p<0.05). The average length was T1 = 1.07 cm/ shrimp, T2 = 1.53 cm/ shrimp, and T3 = 1.03 cm/ shrimp, which was statistically significant (p<0.05).

From the results can be concluded that the shrimp nursery using formula 2 artificial seawater (Institute of Marine and Coastal Science, 2007) is shown more appropriate because the hatching rate of shrimp displayed a higher survival rate. Also, the number of days that shrimp can develop into 100% completely was expressed shorter than in other treatments.
